Point Vicente

Point Vicente is the neighborhood along Palos Verdes Drive West, from the Palos Verdes Estates line toward the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. Its older streets, east of the drive, were built from about 1959 through 1970, and some were known then as West Palos Verdes Estates. Newer enclaves followed from the late 1980s, among them Oceanfront Estates on the ocean bluffs, begun in 1999.

The neighborhood

Living in Point Vicente

In April 1963 the West Palos Verdes Estates Homeowners Association drew more than 200 people to the Point Vicente school cafetorium for a forum on a proposed city of Rancho Palos Verdes, ten years before the city incorporated; only opponents of the idea spoke. A 1964 Peninsula News column for the west side, headed Marine Terrace, Costa Pacifica, Berry Hills and West Palos Verdes Estates, carried news from Rue Langlois, Rue Valois, Via Rivera, Via Victoria and Berry Hill Drive. A local real estate history says the Berry family once owned much of the land around Berry Hill Road.

Later additions include the Villa Capri condominiums of 1989, Lunada Pointe on Marguerite and Laurel Drives, and Oceanfront Estates, where Capital Pacific Holdings planned 79 homes and about 69 acres of habitat inside the project are now part of the city's Vicente Bluffs Reserve. The city's Neighborhood Watch map calls the core of the area Via Rivera.
