One district, sixteen campuses, and the map every Hill family needs

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) runs the public schools for Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and the Peninsula’s unincorporated areas. One corner works differently: Eastview, in Rancho Palos Verdes, is Los Angeles Unified territory where families may choose PVPUSD. Here is how school assignment works, which school serves which neighborhood, and a profile of every campus.

How PVPUSD assigns schools

PVPUSD School Locator

PVPUSD has ten TK–5 elementary schools, three 6–8 intermediate schools, two comprehensive high schools (9–12) and Rancho del Mar, a continuation high school. Elementary and intermediate schools are assigned by home address; high school is the family’s choice. Each rule below links to the PVPUSD page or board policy it comes from (checked Oct 3, 2026).

Elementary, TK–5

Every home in PVPUSD is assigned a “home school” (school of residence), and PVPUSD’s School Locator gives it for an address. Placement is final only after enrollment is complete: if the home school is impacted, a student may be placed at the closest school with space, and board policy lets the district place some students outside their attendance area to relieve overcrowding. Nine schools have zones; Cornerstone has none.

Intermediate, 6–8

Also by home address. There is no school-to-school feeder rule: “Elementary and intermediate student school placements are determined by the residential address on file for that student.” Several elementary zones split between intermediate schools (see the table below), and about 210 homes (the Avenida streets off Crest Road, Crest Road itself from 6653 to 6978, and Los Verdes Drive) are listed by the locator as optional: PV Intermediate or Ridgecrest.

High school, 9–12

No boundary: students who live in PVPUSD may choose Palos Verdes High or Peninsula High. Current PVPUSD 8th graders make a High School Selection in the Aeries parent portal each winter (for the Class of 2030: Jan 26–Feb 15, 2026, confirmed Feb 16); new 9th–12th graders enroll directly at the high school they choose. Students who want to switch high schools later work through their registrar or counselor.

Eastview: LAUSD territory with a PVPUSD option

Eastview is in Rancho Palos Verdes, but its district of residence is Los Angeles Unified. A 1998 state law, SB 1681 (Chapter 868), made it an optional attendance area starting in 1999–2000: parents elect PVPUSD or LAUSD for each child, by May 1 of the school year the child starts elementary school and again by May 1 of the school year the child starts middle school (families who move in choose when they first enroll). PVPUSD says TK–12 students there may choose PVPUSD, and its locator returns Dapplegray Elementary and Miraleste Intermediate for Eastview addresses. Eastview homes aren’t eligible for other PVPUSD permits, such as the Grandparent Permit, and aren’t charged PVPUSD’s parcel tax. LAUSD schools inside Eastview include Crestwood Street Elementary and Dodson Middle; ask LAUSD which school serves your address.

Cornerstone and dual immersion

Cornerstone at Pedregal has no attendance boundary and uses a parent-participation model; any student eligible for a PVPUSD elementary school may apply in Aeries. Lunada Bay’s one-way Spanish dual-immersion program (the district’s only one) starts in kindergarten, not TK; students must be enrolled first. Students whose home school is Lunada Bay get priority, then siblings of students already in the program, and a district-wide lottery fills any remaining seats. In 2026–27 the program runs kindergarten through 3rd grade, adding 4th grade in 2027–28 and 5th in 2028–29, and it added a second kindergarten class for 2026–27. Later entry needs prior dual-immersion experience and a Spanish assessment, space permitting. Both use random lotteries by grade-level space with no waitlist; for 2026–27 the windows were March 1–31 and May 15–June 15, 2026.

Transfers and moves inside the district

Families may ask for a PVPUSD school other than the home school, up to two choices. For 2026–27 there was one window for each level: intermediate Feb 16–28, 2026 and elementary May 15–June 15, 2026. Requests are approved only where there is space, in random order, with no waitlist and no appeal; siblings of continuing students get priority, and transfer students may later be displaced by excess enrollment. K–8 students who move within the district may stay at their school or switch to the new home school, a choice made at the time of the move.

The locator answers which school, not whether you live in PVPUSD. PVPUSD’s Boundary Information page (updated May 30, 2024) says a few Rolling Hills Country Club addresses in Rolling Hills Estates are in Los Angeles Unified or Torrance Unified rather than PVPUSD. It lists the LAUSD-zoned ones (15 and 17 McCarrell Ranch Road; 31, 33 and 35 Thorsen Ranch Road), whose families must be released from LAUSD before enrolling in PVPUSD, yet the locator still returns Dapplegray and Miraleste for them (checked Oct 3, 2026). The page doesn’t list the Torrance-zoned addresses. Rolling Hills Country Club families should confirm residency and placement with the Enrollment Center at (310) 896-3401 (boundary information).

Both tables summarize PVPUSD’s School Locator answers for all 23,297 L.A. County Assessor addresses in PVPUSD and Eastview, entered Oct 2–3, 2026; schools are listed from most addresses to fewest. For two Palos Verdes Estates addresses (4001 and 4010 Palos Verdes Drive North) the locator answers “No data found” under their own city; it gives Rancho Vista and Miraleste only when another city is entered (Rolling Hills Estates for 4001, Palos Verdes Peninsula for 4010), which disagrees with every nearby address, so call the Enrollment Center at (310) 896-3401 (live locator checks, Oct 3, 2026). Exactly 100 addresses (mostly commercial and common-area lots) return “No data found.” Assignments can change, so check your exact address in the School Locator or on our map.

National Blue Ribbon School (2024) and an America’s Healthiest Schools All-Star (2025). Home of PVIT, the Palos Verdes Institute of Technology, a robotics and engineering program founded in 1987. The bluff-top campus opened in 1961, housed PV Intermediate after the district consolidated its high schools in 1991, and reopened as a high school in 2002 (PV Library District history; PVHS’s own PVIT page says 2001).

The district’s largest school. National Blue Ribbon School (2022), an America’s Healthiest Schools All-Star (2025) and on the 2025 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll; it was a 2017 California Gold Ribbon School with its SMERT program (science, math, engineering, research and technology) as the model program. Opened in 1964 as Rolling Hills High School and became the combined Peninsula High when the district merged its three high schools in 1991 (PV Library District history).

Recognized by the California Department of Education as a Model Continuation High School, and WASC-accredited. Students earn credits toward graduation in a smaller setting; board policy sets eligibility at age 16 or 17 at enrollment, and the school describes its students as 16 to 18. The Palos Verdes Distance Learning Academy (grades 6–12) and the PV Transit office share its Crest Road campus.

Who attends: District-wide, no attendance zone. Students may enroll voluntarily, with the district’s consent and as space permits, when a parent submits a written request or a counselor or school administrator refers them; a student can also be transferred involuntarily under Education Code 48432.5 (BP 6184 · AR 6184).

A 34-acre east-side campus with a swimming pool, a gym, a stadium with a track, and tennis courts. The pool renovation, approved Aug 27, 2025, was Measure SOS’s first construction project, and the district expects it to finish in December 2026 (bond timeline · Sept 23, 2026 board update). The campus also houses the district’s central kitchen, which prepares meals for every PVPUSD school.

Who it serves (by address): every Dapplegray address (Eastview included) and every Mira Catalina address, most of the Rancho Vista zone (including unincorporated Westfield) and the south-coast streets of the Point Vicente zone, Portuguese Bend included. Next: either high school.

Run the address through PVPUSD’s School Locator for the elementary and intermediate school; high school is your choice. Our schools map shows the locator’s answers for every address, checked Oct 3, 2026. The locator doesn’t prove district residency, and elementary placement is final only after enrollment, so confirm with the Enrollment Center at (310) 896-3401.

Register in two steps

Start online through Aeries (about 20 minutes), then bring originals to the Enrollment Center: birth certificate or passport, immunization records, a parent photo ID, the latest report card or transcript, any IEP or 504 plan, and two different utility documents showing the home’s service and mailing address, dated within 60 days, with a parent as account holder. Printed e-statements aren’t accepted; paperless households can bring utility letters mailed to the home or verify accounts on a district kiosk. Grades 9 and up enroll at the high school. Enrollment isn’t complete until step two.

Mind the windows

For 2026–27: enrollment opened Feb 2, 2026; kindergarten was for children 5 by Sept 1, 2026, and TK for children turning 5 between Sept 2, 2026 and Sept 1, 2027; high school selection ran Jan 26–Feb 15; intermediate transfers Feb 16–28; Cornerstone and dual immersion March 1–31 and May 15–June 15; interdistrict permits April 1–June 1; and elementary transfers May 15–June 15. Expect a similar rhythm for 2027–28 and confirm on the district’s enrollment dates page.

We entered every L.A. County Assessor address in PVPUSD and Eastview (23,297) into PVPUSD’s School Locator on Oct 2–3, 2026 and recorded the elementary and intermediate school it returned for each; 100 returned “No data found.” The zone map, the tables above, the zone shares (“about 3 in 4,” “about half,” “about 210 homes”), the street lists and each school’s “zone & next school” line come from those answers. On Oct 3 we re-checked about 1,000 address forms live against the locator, including every disputed one. City lines are from L.A. County’s city boundary map. The locator remains the official word for any single address.

Ask any longtime Peninsula agent: attendance areas move markets here. Identical houses on opposite sides of a boundary line can price differently, Eastview’s district choice is a genuine amenity, and enrollment trends shape which campuses thrive.
