Place positions are Palos Verdes Life's own, matched to the school's current campus map and an earlier 2016 edition. Campus details can change, so confirm with the school office.

The floor rule comes from the key on the school's current campus map, which sets downstairs rooms in bold and upstairs rooms underlined. Type any room into the map's search box, for example “S42”, “H15” or “P207”, and the list jumps to the building that holds it.

Arriving & parking

Two driveways on Silver Spur, no drop-off loop

Driving in

  1. Student lot: the signalized driveway on Silver Spur Road, or the second driveway just south of it.
  2. Staff lot, the strip along Hawthorne: enter from Silver Spur Road just north of Hawthorne or from Hawthorne Boulevard.
  3. The gated service road at Hawthorne and Blackhorse Road leads to the northeast fields. It's private, not a public entrance.

Drop-off & early pick-up

Peninsula High doesn't publish a drop-off loop or zone. None appears on its current campus map or in the 2026–27 student handbook, so we don't draw one.

PVPHS is a closed campus. For an early pick-up, tell the Attendance Office in advance; the student needs an Off Campus pass, and security at the gate won't let anyone leave without one. Only people on the student's contact list may pick up. For appointments, the student brings a parent's note to Attendance first thing in the morning.

Visitors

Every visitor checks in at the Main Office, the front building by the flagpole and Panther statue near the Silver Spur–Hawthorne corner, and parks in a space designated for visitors. The school doesn't say where those spaces are.

Coming for a show? Event directions point Performing Arts Center audiences to the staff lot along Hawthorne. Parking in the student lot means a longer walk across campus.

Student parking

  • All on-campus parking is reserved. Permits go to seniors and to students with prior arrangements, such as auction winners. They're issued by semester, first come, first served.
  • Each permit comes with an assigned, numbered space and needs a license plate on the application. The suggested donation is $100 a semester, and a lost permit costs $10.
  • Students without a permit may park in the main student lot after 2:15 p.m. Before that, everyone else parks on Silver Spur Road or Hawthorne Boulevard, not on Basswood, across the street, behind the Arco station, at Chase or Bank of America, or in the shopping center.
  • Staff spaces are reserved 6:00 a.m.–3:15 p.m., and the spaces along the wall in front of the gym 6:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m. every day. Bus zones, visitor spaces and disabled spaces (without a placard) are always off-limits. The School Resource Officer and Lomita sheriff's deputies write the tickets.
Campus traffic and parking rules can change from year to year. Confirm with the school office at (310) 377-4888, or read the parking pages of the school's 2026–27 Student Handbook (PDF).

Athletics & arts

Where the games and shows happen

Gym, cafeteria & dance rooms

The gym is the tallest building on campus, just east of the student lot. The cafeteria fills its south end, next to the South Dance Room, with a covered lunch area beyond. The team room and North Dance Room are at the north end. Gym · Cafeteria

Jackie Prindle Pool

Immediately east of the gym, with the boys' locker room to its northwest and the girls' to its southwest; the school's 2026 campus map labels it Jackie Prindle Pool. A local newspaper, Easy Reader, reported that it is named for Jackie Prindle, a 2003 Peninsula water polo player and swimmer, and that a $150,000 lead gift from her parents started the pool's restoration; PVPUSD hasn't published those details. Show on map

Stadium

The football field and track sit on the northeast side of campus. The home bleachers are on the west side, toward the Titan Building and weight room, and the visitor side faces them from the east. A gate links the student lot to the stadium. The school publishes no formal stadium name. Stadium · Gate

Diamonds, courts & The Pit

The baseball field and six tennis courts take up the north end along Silver Spur; neither is on the school's current campus map, so their positions and the court count come from aerial imagery. The softball field (so labeled on the 2026 campus map) sits on the east side between Panther Hall and the stadium. The lower field northeast of the stadium is labeled “The Pit” on a 2016 campus map; the current official map doesn't name it. Baseball · Tennis · Softball · The Pit

Fieldhouse, band room & weight room

Kelly Johnson Fieldhouse and the Band Room stand north of the student lot; the district dates its field house and music room to 2009. The weight room and two outdoor basketball courts are past the pool, northeast of the gym, and the wrestling room is M30. Fieldhouse · Band Room · Weight room · Wrestling

Performing Arts Center & amphitheater

The PAC is in the center of the Hawthorne Building; the staff lot along Hawthorne is the closest parking for shows. The amphitheater and an outdoor stage sit between the H Building and the round library, and the Art Gallery is in M14. PAC · Amphitheater · Art Gallery

Getting there

Bus, car or on foot

PV Transit

Student buses on the Hill are run by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Transit Authority, not the district. Routes run weekdays only, on schedules effective Aug 26, 2026. The fare is $2.50 cash or TAP, and 2026–27 passes are $305 a semester, $608 a year or $78 a month. The nearest stops we can map are on Silver Spur Road just south of Hawthorne. The Blue, Silver and White brochure (effective Aug 26, 2026) names a “Crossfield/Silver Spur (PVPHS)” stop, but we couldn't confirm exactly where it is, so check the brochures for which lines stop there. Office: (310) 544-7108, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. PV Transit routes & passes

By car

The campus fills the northeast corner of Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard, across the intersection from the Peninsula Center shops. Students may not park in the shopping center. Directions to 27118 Silver Spur Rd

On foot

The front entrance plaza, with the flagpole and Panther statue, is near the Silver Spur–Hawthorne corner beside the Main Office. The school doesn't publish bike-rack locations. Front entrance on the map

Official map & sources

The school's own map, and how ours was made

Peninsula High's official campus map is a schematic drawing that isn't to scale. Ours is north-up and drawn over real building outlines, so it lines up with street signs and your phone's map.

We don't copy the school's map. Here are the originals:

A little history

The campus opened in September 1964 as Rolling Hills High School. When the district merged its three high schools in 1991, it was renamed Palos Verdes Peninsula High School (PV Library District history). Palos Verdes High reopened as a separate high school in 2002, according to the library district's PVHS record; PVHS's own PVIT page says 2001. The district lists a 38-acre site with about 220,000 square feet of buildings, including Panther Hall (2006 and 2009), the Fieldhouse and music room (2009) and the Titan Building (2013). PVPHS was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2022.

How we placed things

Building outlines come from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). We matched the school's current campus map, and a 2016 edition, building by building to those outlines. Stand-alone buildings such as the gym, pool, library, Fieldhouse, Titan Building and M rooms are placed by their outline. Offices inside the big S, H and P buildings sit where the school's maps show them, in the right building but not at the exact door. The least certain are tagged approximate.

The sources disagree on two points. The handbook directory and current map put Attendance in the Main Office, while the school's attendance page and one handbook page still say the Hawthorne Building. The health page and the handbook give different opening times for the Health Office. We follow the newest sources and flag both. Measure SOS bond projects may change the campus, and we'll update this page when they do.
