Customer parking is free in the big central lot: about 320 spaces by the leasing brochure's count, 396 by a commercial listing's. Drive in at the signal where Hawthorne Boulevard meets Palos Verdes Drive West.
Who's where
Trader Joe's, 7-Eleven and Starbucks line the side of the lot along Hawthorne Boulevard and Palos Verdes Drive West. The long two-level building on the south side holds most of the shops and restaurants at street level, with offices upstairs. Chase and Yellow Vase share the corner building at 31246–31252 Palos Verdes Dr W. The large east building, the original Safeway, is now Peninsula Montessori School, with its own playground and field.

From Safeway to Trader Joe's
Golden Cove opened in 1966, seven years before Rancho Palos Verdes became a city. It's a seven-acre, Mediterranean-style corner, and most of its story is the story of its big grocery building.
- 1965
Announced and begun
Developer Jerry Moss announces the seven-acre center in May. Novikoff Engineers design it in a Mediterranean style, and ground breaks Dec 2, with Ernest W. Hahn as general contractor.
- 1966
Safeway opens
A 28,000-square-foot Safeway opens on July 21. The Admiral Risty restaurant follows on Oct 10.
- 1994
Vons closes
Vons, which followed Safeway in the big grocery building, closes.
- 2001
A school moves in
Peninsula Montessori School opens in the former grocery building.
- 2003
Starbucks opens
The coffee shop at 31202 Palos Verdes Dr W opens on Aug 8.
- 2010
Trader Joe's arrives
Trader Joe's opens on Apr 17 at 31176 Hawthorne Blvd. It's the center's grocery store today.
- 2019
The Admiral Risty closes
The ocean-view restaurant closes on Aug 17 after 52 years, and a Chase branch takes over its building at 31250.

Where are the offices at 31244 Palos Verdes Dr W?
Upstairs, on the second floor of the long building on the south side of the lot. Every suite there is numbered in the 200s, from Ste 209 to Ste 236. The ground-floor shops below face the parking lot.
