Palos Verdes Drive East
Palos Verdes Drive East is the horse-keeping area along the northern stretch of Palos Verdes Drive East in Rancho Palos Verdes, north of Miraleste and next to Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates. Its tracts, on streets named Rockinghorse, Saddle, Stirrup, Mustang, Stallion, Colt and Martingale, were recorded from 1953 to 1958, while this part of the Peninsula was still unincorporated county land.

Living in Palos Verdes Drive East
The city zones the area as one of its four equestrian overlay districts, where horses and other large animals such as goats and sheep may be kept. The district map takes in streets from Headland Drive and Cayuse Lane to Colt Road, Clevis Road and Golden Spur Lane. Real estate listings use the name Palos Verdes Drive East for a wider area that also includes Miraleste. Within the district, the city's own lists use smaller names. Its Neighborhood Watch areas are Rockinghorse, Martingale, Sunnyside and Colt Rd, and groups that have taken part in its neighborhood beautification grants include the Sunnyside Ridge HOA, Colt Road HOA, several Rockinghorse associations, Coach Road Area, Chaparral Lane, Roan Road and Headland Drive.
Martingale Trailhead Park, on Martingale Drive, is a city park used by hikers and riders, with a three-level drinking fountain for horses, people and small animals and a mounting block. The area has about 680 homes.
