Portuguese Bend Beach Club
The Portuguese Bend Beach Club is a private, gated beach colony on the Portuguese Bend coast. Its 51 beachfront homes stand on Yacht Harbor Drive, Seawall Road and Spindrift Drive, and the adjoining Tract 16540 on Maritime Road and Sea Horse Lane belongs to the club area too. The Palos Verdes Corporation completed the club by the late 1940s, and homes for members went up on leased land in the 1940s and 1950s.

Living in Portuguese Bend Beach Club
The clubhouse, finished by 1948, had a large saltwater pool, tennis courts and a 425-foot pier. The landslide that began in 1956 led to the clubhouse closing, and it was demolished by 1958; the pier was removed in 1973. In the late 1950s Palos Verdes Properties sold 42 lots, on what became Tract 16540, to people who had lost homes in the slide. In 1987 the owners of the 51 beachfront homes completed the purchase of their sites, the beach, the gatehouse and the roads from Transamerica.
In 2002 the city counted 94 homes on 38 acres with half a mile of coastline, and the club had its own seven-member board. The beachfront homes lie in the Klondike Canyon Landslide Abatement District, formed in 1981, and in 2025 the city added one Portuguese Bend Beach Club property to its landslide area.
