Mesa Palos Verdes

Mesa Palos Verdes is a neighborhood of about 520 homes along Whitley Collins Drive, Stonecrest Drive, Sunmist Drive and nearby streets off Highridge Road. Ray Watt's R. A. Watt Co. developed it from 1963, and most houses date from 1963 to 1968. Watt's advertisements promoted model homes with Los Angeles Home Show honors and views of the ocean, Catalina Island and the city.

The neighborhood

Living in Mesa Palos Verdes

Part of the first tract was originally in Rolling Hills Estates, which in early 1964 gave up unused stretches of Stonecrest Road and Oceanridge Drive; some lots there are still in that city. By 1970 the Mesa Palos Verdes Homeowners Association was weighing how to pay for the Monterey pines in the Whitley Collins Drive median, after its members had voted down a landscape district. The city's Neighborhood Watch map calls the area Whitley Collins.

Two later communities share the area: the homes on Mela Lane, built in 1979, and Sol y Mar, about 60 homes off Crestridge Road finished between 2016 and 2018.
