Living in Grandview
The homes were sold in named sections. In December 1957 the company was offering three- and four-bedroom, two-bath houses near Montemalaga Drive and Silver Spur Road, designed by the architects Harris & Rice and William M. Bray and priced from $22,050. The Town and Country and Sea Breeze sections of Grandview Palos Verdes opened in 1959 (that Sea Breeze is not the 1997 Sea Breeze tract near Crest Road). In 1961 came the 136-home Country Club Unit, beside the Palos Verdes Golf Club course (advertised in 1961 as the Palos Verdes Country Club), and Grandview Rolling Hills, east of Silver Spur Road. A Grandview design by Harris, Rice & Campbell won an Award of Distinction from American Builder magazine, reported in January 1959.
Today Grandview is one of the city's road districts, and the city's Neighborhood Watch map divides it into the Silver Spur, Basswood, Grayslake and Montemalaga areas. Neighborhood groups on the city's grant list include Upper Basswood, White Fox Drive, Littlebow Area, Silver Spur and Grandview Country Club. Grandview Park, a passive park of about 17 to 18 acres on Ironwood Street, is the neighborhood park. The streets are public.
