Masongate
Masongate is a neighborhood of lanes and drives on the north side of Palos Verdes Drive North in Rolling Hills Estates, starting across the road from the end of Silver Spur Road. Masongate, Sugarhill and Ferncreek drives and Chalmette and Hampshire lanes were laid out on tracts recorded in 1956 and 1957, and most of their homes went up between the late 1950s and the mid-1960s.

Living in Masongate
Latigo Lane came later, on a tract recorded in 1968, and most of its homes date from the early to mid-1970s. Rolling Hills Estates annexed the northern part of Masongate in 1959, two years after the city incorporated on September 18, 1957. A 1960s photograph of the neighborhood's sign shows the Masongate name on a wooden board beneath two lanterns, set on a stone base.
The city's General Plan uses this part of town to show how much neighboring areas can differ: Masongate, Rollingwood and Los Ranchos Verdes/Ranchview lie within a half-mile radius, yet their street patterns, lot sizes and lot shapes vary sharply. Across Palos Verdes Drive North, the older Marloma loop of Marina, Marloma and Rollando drives had a sign of its own.
