Living in Dapplegray Lanes
In 1948 the last 22 houses of the Dapplegray Lane building program were finished, with the remaining homes priced from $14,750 to $15,750 and lots from $1,750 to $2,850. The city's General Plan uses Dapplegray Lanes as its example of equestrian layout. Houses sit close to the street on narrow lots, with corrals, stables and other outbuildings at the rear near the trails. Like many neighborhoods in the city, it has a single road out to the arterial streets.
In 1953 Dapplegray Lane was among the communities in the South Bay Homeowners Association, which fought a mining permit for Great Lakes Carbon. A Dapplegray Lane Property Owners Association was active by 1968, and the Dapplegray Lanes Property Owners Association is on the city's 2021–2029 Housing Element list of homeowners associations. At the northwest corner of Palos Verdes Drive North and Palos Verdes Drive East, the city's 1.5-acre Dapplegray Park has a riding ring, a lunging ring and a dressage area linked to the bridle trails.
