Montemalaga
Montemalaga is the hilltop zone of Palos Verdes Estates, above Malaga Cove and Lunada Bay, with Rancho Palos Verdes along its eastern side. Its largest tracts were mapped from 1926 to 1928, but most of its about 500 homes were built from the mid-1950s on, along streets such as Granvia Altamira, Via Margarita and Paseo La Cresta.

Living in Montemalaga
The name joins the Spanish monte, or hill, with Malaga, and it is also written Monte Malaga. The zone holds the highest ground in the city, and it has no shops, apartments or condominiums. Coronel Plaza, first planned as a small commercial district, is now a short street of houses from the 1960s and 1970s. A street in the Malaga Cove zone below is named Montemalaga Plaza.
Like the rest of Palos Verdes Estates, Montemalaga is under the Palos Verdes Homes Association, whose Art Jury must approve any new building or exterior change.
