About Monte Verde
The 1962 lots averaged about 15,000 square feet and started at $15,000, with utilities underground and architectural controls. Lots bordering the golf course, then still under construction, opened in September 1963. When 67 more lots opened on March 3, 1965, 18 sold on the first day; by then more than 125 Monte Verde lots had been sold for custom homes.
In May 1964 three display homes were open at Monte Verde, one of them designed by the architects Smith and Williams, with landscaping directed by Eckbo, Dean and Williams. Most homes in the later sections went up between about 1967 and 1976.
